Stoke Stampede

Taunton, Somerset, England

Official race site →

A lovely 10K race held annually in a tranquil village in Somerset on quiet country lanes. It all started with a fun pram race between two pubs in the village and has grown into a must run 10K race in the South West race calendar, as a fundraiser for the playing field in the village of Stoke St Gregory. The Stoke Stampede is seen as an ideal start of the running calendar. Both by beginners as well as by experienced and highly trained athletes. The undulating terrain with only the odd steep climb in the course is challenging enough to make the race interesting, yet achievable for the novice runner. The race has been named truly unique because of the professional organisation, yet the village feel throughout the event, thanks to an army of friendly volunteers and the great crowds around the course. The course is a figure 8 route on country roads through Stoke St Gregory starting at the Old Rose and Crown and finishing at the Royal Oak. It has KM markers and water points at 5K and the finish. The race is chip timed. Race numbers are to be collected on race day from the Village Hall (just off the village square) where there are event toilets outside. There are no private cubicles as changing facilities, nor is there secure storage. Excess clothing can be left in the village hall (and collected after the race) however is not guarded so please do not leave any valuables. All finishers will receive a medal and there is a wide range of categories of which winners are presented a medal at a prize ceremony at approximately 12.30 pm.
